Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Kandt House Museum

On arrival at Kigali international airport, you are received by our drive guide who takes you to the booked hotel of your choice to check-in. This marks the start of the 10 Days Rwanda Tanzania Wildlife Safari. He also briefs you on the tour highlights. Based on your arrival time you will do some Kigali city tour and visit Kandt HouseMuseum. Richard Kandt was the first colonial governor of Rwanda, on behalf of Germany, until the early 1900s. At present, the Kandt House Museum in Kigali comprises three main parts.  The first part presents Rwandan life in all its aspects social, economic, and political before the colonial period. The second part traces the experience of the Rwandan people during the colonial period. Following the Berlin Conference in 1884, the Germans ruled Rwanda until 1916, when the Belgians took over under the League of Nations Mandate after World War I. Richard Kandt’s life and deeds in Rwanda are covered here. The third part covers the history of Kigali, before, during and after the colonial era. Kigali was made the capital upon independence in 1962. If you reach Kigali very late you can combine Kandt House Museum and Kigali Genocide Memorial tours on the second day before your transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Cultural Heritage corridor.

Day 2: Kigali Genocide Memorial & Transfer to the Rwandan Cultural Heritage Corridor

Wake up, enjoy the breakfast at your hotel, checkout the hotel room and depart for Kigali Genocide Memorial, which, through education and peace-building, honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994. The three permanent exhibitions and burial gardens form part of a meaningful tribute to those who perished, and provide a powerful educational tool for visitors. Day 3: Kings’ Palace & Ethnographic Museum tours to Nyungwe National Park

Wake up at sunrise, have your breakfast, checkout the hotel room and proceed for a visit to the Ethnographic Museum and King’s Palace in Nyanza. A reconstruction of the traditional royal residence, the King’s Palace is a beautifully-crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive. In olden times, Nyanza was the heart of Rwanda. According to oral tradition, it was the site of battles and power struggles. For a long time, the monarchy was mobile, moving the court between various locations. When it eventually settled in one place, Nyanza was the obvious choice. The capital of the kingdom had as many as 2,000 inhabitants, and huts built with the same methods as seen here. At the back live a few long-horned Inyambo cattle, descended from the king’s herd, whose keepers carefully tend and sing to them, keeping alive a unique tradition.

After your visit to the Kings’ Palace you will proceed with the Ethnographic Museum. The nearby Ethnographic Museum in Huye houses one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections, and makes a good combination with the King’s Palace. A gift from Belgium’s King Badouin in the late 1980s, the Ethnographic Museum now houses one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections. Seven galleries display historical, ethnographic, artistic and archaeological artefacts accompanied by visual aids, giving visitors a rich insight into the Rwandan culture. The exhibits open with geographical and geological displays, moving on to items used in hunting, agriculture, animal husbandry, pottery, weaving and woodwork. Depart Nyanza for Nyungwe National Park. Day 4: Nyungwe National Park Chimpanzee Trekking and Birding

Wake up early; enjoy your breakfast at your hotel & go for chimpanzee tracking in the Nyungwe Forest. After a short briefing by our professional guide, walk through stunning tea plantations before entering the thick luscious forest. There are over 13 species of monkey found in the forest and excellent birding opportunities with over 100 species of butterflies and the occasional chameleon.

One of the oldest rainforests in Africa, Nyungwe is rich in biodiversity and spectacularly beautiful. With us, the excursion will last from one to four hours but you will definitely hear the chimpanzees from the moment you enter the forest. Once found you will stay for an hour with the chimpanzees, watching them play, fight and eat in the atmospheric forest.

In the afternoon after lunch you start your bird watching within the park.
